Green tea’s role in arthritis care

Which chronic disorder afflicts women three times more often than men? Which disorder is most frequent in people aged 40 to 50 years old, but can also occur in anyone, young or old? Which disorder can lead to chronic pain and lost of mobility? The answer to all of these questions is rheumatoid arthritis, and green tea antioxidants may help prevent and treat the disorder. A 1999 study reported that people who drank four or more cups of green tea each day were less likely to get rheumatoid arthritis, and it reduced the severity of the disorder for those who already had it.

As an alternative prevention and treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, green tea works in three ways. First, its antioxidants help protect joints from free-radical damage. Second, green tea helps promote “friendly” bacteria to the intestine, which help in the therapy of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. And third, those friendly bacteria that green tea encourages are needed for a healthy intestine. While other arthritis treatments may be needed – always consult your doctor – green tea can be a delicious, soothing addition to your healthy regimen.

What is acai?

What is an acai berry? That’s what I ask myself walking through the grocery store. You will notice just about everything you can come across has some form of acai in it. It seemed to pop up over night. It is not as famous as some of the other berries out there, but it is growing in popularity.
To answer the question “What is acai?” it’s simple. Acai berry is a round, black purple fruit, smaller than a grape and has less pulp than a grape. In Brazil they use the acai berry as a juice, or as an ice cream flavor, they also put it in there tapioca. In the states, we find it in a more common juice form. It has started to become very popular.

Will the Acai Berry be FDA Approved?

You’ve probably read the claims and examined the studies that show the acai berry is a super fruit with many health benefits; yet, you are hesitant to try the fruit. Why is that? For some people, the reason is the fruit is not approved by the FDA. What they fail to realize is the FDA is unlikely to pass any sort of judgment on the fruit itself.

The FDA has not officially approved or disproved the acai berry or acai berry research simply because the fruit is the produce item of another country. The berry requires rainforest conditions to grow into a super fruit. Since the acai berry is unlikely to ever be sold in the U.S. as a produce item, the FDA has little incentive to spend money researching and approving the berry. Specific acai juice bottling plants inside the U.S. may or may not have FDA approval, but this has less to do with the fruit itself and more to do with conditions at the factory.

acaiThere are a variety of products being touted as “super foods” today, and one of the newest foods to be given the moniker is the acai berry. Many people may be asking themselves, “What is acai berry“? Although the berry is relatively new to North American culture, it has been harvested by the people of South America for thousands of years.

The small, purple skinned berries have large seeds and little pulp, with makes them ideal for juicing. One of the reasons that the acai berry has earned the designation of a super food is its high level of antioxidants, which protect our bodies from harmful free radicals. It also has the same Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids that are found in olive oil.

acai berry reseach

Over the last several years there has been significant research into the tiny acai berry. One of the studies that spurred the acai revolution was conducted at the University of Florida. In 2006 the University released acai berry research that showed the berry’s extract was effective in causing up to 86% of Leukima cells to initiate a self-destruct mechanism.

This research, as well as other studies conducted around the world, affirms some of the berry’s miraculous effects. Because examinations into the berry are relatively new, there is still much to learn about the tiny fruit. All preliminary findings, however, point to a bright future for the acai berry.

Açai Berry Scams – Gotchya

Have you fallen prey to deceitful and insidious scam artists, promising considerable weight loss by taking their Açai Berry products and deceptive appearance of endorsement for their products from celebrities?

free_trial_offerIt’s like fishing. There is a bait (the free trial scams offer). Then the hook (the credit card information to pay for the small shipping cost). Once the credit card goes through, you are hooked. The auto-shipping of their products at exuberant amount will be charged to your credit card. You tried to wiggle and fight and scream and display your displeasure, like a fish trying to unhook itself from its catcher, but to avail because your credit card has already gone through. Payment to the conniving scam artists has already been made. If you are not checking your credit card transactions and statements regularly and allowing the transactions to happen over a period of time, you are out of a lot of dough.

Giving your money to a reputable charity or medical research like cancer research is a worthwhile cause. Being scammed is not worthwhile nor fun and totally frustrating when you tried to discontinue the auto-ship. It’s like being robbed or being taken advantage of. This is serious stuff.

Açai berry is an amazing fruit and there are legitimate businesses that do not have auto-ship. They also offer great Açai berry products. Do your research.

If you still decide to give the free trial a try, read the small fine prints and watch your credits. Be warned.

Nutritional Values of Açai Berry

There is a ton of vitamins and minerals packed in a little purple fruit called the Açai berry – the size of a blueberry. This berry is grown only in the Amazon jungle.

19 different amino acids have been found in Açai. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. It is essentially a super fruit for bodybuilders and there are approximately 8 grams of protein in every 100 gram serving of Açai berry.

Half of the Açai berry is fat, with close to three quarters of this fat being unsaturated fat, including Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9. These omega fats are essential in the muscle recovery period after an intensive workout. Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids are good fats that cannot be produced by the body but must be obtained through healthy food intakes. These fats serve many functions, one of which is to increase the rate at which the body burns fat.

Inside the Acai BerryThere are close to 15 grams of fiber in every 100 grams of freeze dried Açai powder. Fiber works as a cleanser scraping the inside of your intestines and cleaning out any toxin buildups. Fiber makes you feel full, warding off food cravings and temptation to eat more than you need. Consuming Açai berry products or supplements is also a tasty way to get the extra fiber your body needs to maintain proper blood sugar levels- an important way to keep fat from accumulating in your tissues.

Açai Berry Facts

  • Taste: sweet berry and chocolate
  • Consumable products: juice, pills, powder or directly as a berry
  • Native Brazilians eat the frozen pulp with bananas as their daily diet.
  • Has 10 times the antioxidant level of grapes and over double that of blueberries
  • Has about 30 times on average the power of the Anthocyanins of red wine. It is a powerful antioxidant (antioxidants protect cell damages).
  • Eat a rainbow-rich diet to obtain as much vitamins and minerals as your could and supplement it with Açai berry products.
  • Since Açai berry has exceptionally high values of omega fat, once harvested, it must be preserved immediately or it will quickly go bad. So to bring the berry outside of Brazil and to keep the most of its nutrients intact, the Açai berries are freeze-dried before leaving the country.
