Increasing Your Energy

Have you ever felt sluggish in the morning, extra tired in the afternoon, and downright depressed at night? Though it could be you’ve contracted a case of the Mondays, more likely is that your nutrition is out of whack. Whenever an advertisement for nutritional supplements appears on the television, radio, or internet, you often hear “you need to receive your daily dose of vitamins to be healthy”. Sadly, because these advertisements are trying to sell a product, their approach is to guilt you into this apparent “healthiness” that can only be achieved through their product. What they should do is tell you why you would want a nutritional supplement at all.

Drinking eight glasses of water per day, eating lots of grains, cutting red meat and saturated fat; it all sounds fine, but what does it do? It gives you more energy. As in, when you wake up in the morning, even if you’ve only gotten a few hours of sleep, you’ll feel more refreshed and will improve your memory. Getting all those essential vitamins will help you to avoid falling asleep in the afternoon.  Drinking lots of water will increase your metabolism (though you do have to use the bathroom more) but this will allow your body to burn more calories.  All in all, nutritional supplements lead to a life where you feel better, and that’s the reason to take them. Looking into an acai berry diet is another idea to promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Which chronic disorder afflicts women three times more often than men? Which disorder is most frequent in people aged 40 to 50 years old, but can also occur in anyone, young or old? Which disorder can lead to chronic pain and lost of mobility? The answer to all of these questions is rheumatoid arthritis, and green tea antioxidants may help prevent and treat the disorder. A 1999 study reported that people who drank four or more cups of green tea each day were less likely to get rheumatoid arthritis, and it reduced the severity of the disorder for those who already had it.

As an alternative prevention and treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, green tea works in three ways. First, its antioxidants help protect joints from free-radical damage. Second, green tea helps promote “friendly” bacteria to the intestine, which help in the therapy of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. And third, those friendly bacteria that green tea encourages are needed for a healthy intestine. While other arthritis treatments may be needed – always consult your doctor – green tea can be a delicious, soothing addition to your healthy regimen.

Acai berries come from a tree called the acai palm. Most acai palms on the planet can be found in large concentrations in Central and South America. Countries like Belize, Brazil and Peru are particularly well populated with the acai palm. With a preference for swamps and floodplains, these tall, slender palms have found a welcoming home in these countries. As a boon to their export economies the acai berry has quickly become a popular additive to all types of foods and can even be found in a number of dietary supplements and vitamins.

But what are the real acai berry benefits? It’s most notable health benefit is as an antioxidant. By inhibiting the creation of free radicals that damage cells, acai is instrumental in staving off cancer and a host of other maladies. Speculation also exists that acai may be helpful in detoxification. Another benefit is a boost in energy and an overall feeling of good health. Though many of these claims have not been adequately studied, anecdotal evidence suggests that acai truly is the miracle fruit of the decade.

It can be difficult for women to get all the essential vitamins and minerals they need. Often, women do not eat enough servings of fruit and vegetables each day to maintain optimum health. For example, calcium is a necessary nutrient for everyone, especially women. It strengthens bones and helps prevent osteoporosis. Women can get it through milk, cheese and yogurt, but those who don’t like milk or are intolerant to dairy products may be deficient in calcium. Fruits like oranges, blackberries, kiwi and tomatoes can provide calcium.

An easy way to take in several servings of fruit and nutrients is to drink fruit-filled smoothies. You can use a blender to make delicious, nutritious fruit smoothies at home that are much less expensive than smoothies you can buy at smoothie shops. Throw in some blackberries for calcium and iron, kiwi for copper, bananas for magnesium and acai berries for antioxidants. Add a powdered nutritional supplement to add even more health-benefitting nutrients.

In addition to antioxidants, the acai berry also has a high amount of fiber and is low in sugar. The berries also boast ample levels of other vitamins, minerals and healthy fatty acids. Other health benefits of acai berry include improved heart health, cholesterol reduction, weight management and increased energy.
